Overview

Truly Bangalore, located on Dundas Street East in Whitby, offers a genuine taste of Karnataka’s rich vegetarian cuisine right in the heart of Canada. This restaurant stands out as a culinary bridge for those longing for authentic Bangalore flavors, capturing the essence of South Indian street food with a homey yet vibrant ambiance.

The main draw here is the variety of dosas and uttapams that showcase traditional recipes with precision and care. Favorites like the Onion Mysore Masala Dosa and Neer Dosa deliver the perfect balance of crispness and softness, evoking memories of bustling Bangalore food stalls. Complementing these are the wholesome sides—chutneys and sambar—that elevate each bite with their layered spices and textures.

Beyond dosas, Truly Bangalore serves an enticing range of Karnataka specialties such as Maddur Vada, Masala Puri, and the iconic Gadbad Ice Cream, which reflects the playful spirit of local dessert culture. The Filter Coffee here garners special praise, offering that classic aromatic kick that any true Bangalorean misses when away from home.

Customers consistently highlight the authenticity of both the food and the atmosphere. Kannada tunes in the background deepen the immersive experience, making it not only a meal but a nostalgic journey. The friendly, attentive service and the warm hospitality by hosts like Meghana add to the inviting atmosphere that appeals especially to South Indian communities, food enthusiasts, and anyone seeking an authentic taste of Bangalore.

The space is modest yet welcoming, designed for casual dining with a focus on comfort. Some visitors note areas for improvement, such as washroom accessibility, but these minor drawbacks are overshadowed by the genuine flavors and heartfelt cooking. Truly Bangalore has positioned itself as a culinary gem in the Durham region, attracting repeat patrons who appreciate the dedication to authentic South Indian vegetarian cuisine.

For those craving traditional Karnataka dishes away from India, Truly Bangalore provides both a culinary and cultural sanctuary. It’s a must-visit for Bangaloreans abroad and anyone eager to experience South Indian vegetarian fare in an authentic setting.

Initially(looking at the prices), we were apprehensive to visit this restaurant. But, on visiting, we swore to come back again & again. For Bangaloreans(& lovers of Karnataka delicacies), you will not find a more authentic food in this part of the city. Every dish tastes as it was meant to taste. We tried Neeru dosa, Mysore Masala dosa, Filter Coffee(too good!) and Rava Idli(see photos). (Feedback to owner: Please build a separate wash basin for handwashing, instead of having to wait for restroom to be available. Also, work on opening more branches in Durham region)

Bangalore food in Canada! Amazing food and experience. If you are missing Bangalore, this is a to go place. Chalukya Masala dosa, Masala puri and Gadbad ice cream was the best. We also tasted the Honey cake which was yum! Lovely experience and food. Truely Bangalore!

The restaurant truly lives up to its name! It instantly reminded me of Bangalore vibes, especially with the Kannada songs playing in the background that took me straight back home. The dosas taste exactly like how they do in Bangalore — authentic, flavorful, and comforting. A perfect spot if you’re craving a true Bangalore experience away from the city.

We got to know about this place from our friends and have received mixed reviews. We ordered one plain dosa ( which was very crispy ) but we wanted it to be soft . Second item was open masala dosa which was ok. Third one was spicy dosa what was ok too. Sambhar was spicy as well as sweet too. Green chutney was spicy and other chutney was not. Onion uttapam was good in size but it was okay okay in taste. We have also tried white forest and Black Forest pastries. They were good but expensive( not worth it).

We came here for Saturday breakfast and had a great experience! The food was incredibly close to what you’d find in Bangalore, we enjoyed every single dish. The dosa was perfectly crispy, and everything else was absolutely spot on. Meghana was a wonderful host and made our visit even more enjoyable. I’ve tried the MTR location in Mississauga as well, and this one is so much better! Even though we live all the way in Pickering, we’ll definitely be making the trip back often.

The Masala puri was so tasty just like back home. Isli was good as well but I felt the sambar was a bit sweeter. The chutneys were unique but not like authentic Bangalore taste. The space is small and they make you wait even though there were empty tables because people had reserved and didn't show up. Overall, its a great place to try authentic Bangalore cuisine

Went to this place for the first time with the family and had a good experience. We tried most of the items on the menu, apart from a few that were not yet ready due to the time. We were served at the table by the wonderful Ardra who explained and recommended the best dishes to try and how they are different. The masala dosa was nice with peanuts in the masala, Vada was very crisp and I loved it. Puri and curry were normal taste. Thatte Idly and mini podi idly were good and we had them for the first time, the sambar is a bit too sweet though. We also tried the filter coffee and found it to be quite strong for my taste. And finally we tried the Ghadbud Ice cream which has 3 scoops of different flavours with fruits and jelly, it was wholesome. We would definetly come back to try more of the menu. It looks like it gets crowded after 1:00 pm so reservations recommended. Else you can go early like we did around 11:30 or 12:00. The ambience took me back to the few times I had visited Bangalore some 10 years ago.
